Choice, Metaphor, and Meaning in Astrophysics

We will be delivering a shared talk on our 6 year collaboration across art, astrophysics, and the spaces between and beyond. We will speak about our process of co-creating “The Gift”, an immersive performance piece that animates contemporary astrophysics research and opens up metaphorical space for grief, loss, and renewal. Throughout our story of co-creation we will touch on the intentions, mechanics, and benefits of sustaining a long-term and rigorous practice of co-creation across disciplines, and speak to how our work activates many of the strategies advocated by scholars in feminist science and technology studies.
